The April statement includes tuition fees plus new music and the National Piano Guild Auditions Fees on May-11th-14th. My students will be auditioned on Saturday and Sunday. The adjudicator comes to my studio but at this writing noone has yet been assigned to me. I will know by April 15th. We are working hard in preparing for this MAJOR event. I will be teaching all of Spring break (April 2-7) to those who plan to be around. Lessons can be placed anywhere during the day or evening. Those going to UGA on May 11th-12th can take their Guild audition wherever it works best for you.

Those students who attained OP(Outstanding Performer) will be going to UGA to compete on the state level, May 11th & 12th. Congratulations to Katherine Ng, Roger Ou, Lauren Tsai and Derek Vann. Award of Excellence went to Alison Tsai, Ken Taylor, Vanessa Scrubb and Caroline Wu. Roger Ou will be entering the Concerto Competition at that time. Due to my chairing the Guild Auditions in my studio that weekend, Mark Salcedo will be playing the orchestral part for Roger who is doing the 3rd Movement of the Grieg Conerto in A minor. Congratulations to all ! Federation results: 11 Superior Plusses, 20 Superiors and 2 Excellents. I know Mr. Arnold would be so very proud and applauding you all. Roger Ou was one of 30 semi-finalists in the Daniel Piano Competition held at Furman University March 15-18. The program can be seen in my studio. These were students chosen from all over the country. The best of the best. Most prestigious judges I have seen were there. Congratulations, Roger !

The Federation was a huge success. Hats off to LaNelle Nash and Judy Scheffel who worked long hours to make it all happen. The NANCY & BILL ARNOLD SCHOLARSHIP was awarded to my student, Derek Vann who will attend Florida State this Summer. The competition on the high school level was tough and difficult to judge.

I am still receiving letters and cards from near and far and the kindness from all of you has made a difference. Thank you for your continued kindness and understanding through this difficult time for me. My teaching has been a blessing and genuine source of comfort, keeping me busy doing the thing I love most, teaching. Four new students have been added to my studio enrollment in 2007. They are: Elaine Liu, Tony Zeng, Stephen Strang and Marvin Hobby. Welcome! Happy Easter and Happy vacation April 2-6. Be safe! Mrs. Arnold

Hopefully all of you have received your time for Federation Auditions on March 3rd, at St. David's Church on Old Roswell Rd. Have not yet received the times for the NDMTA auditions but will contact you as soon as I do hear. I am healing well with the help of a grief counselor and a wonderful support from our six offspring. Your prayers and kindnesses have played a major part in my recovery. Some of you may not know that my husband, Bill, was the chairman for this Federation for 23 years and two new scholarships have been named after us both-The Nancy & Bill Arnold Scholarships-one for 8th-9th-10th and the other for 11th-12th. How honored I am and how very honored Bill Arnold would be. Good luck on the Federation Performance-I know you all will do your very best. I will be making up lessons as best I can (60 day time frame) and use Spring Break for such.

Two exciting Spring recitals are now history. The Senior recital/concert was very well attended.  There were few empty seats. The quartets and classical solos were outstanding. Quartet selections included Light Cavalry Overture, March Slav, Dance Macabre, Hungarian Rhapsody/Liszt and concluded with Stars & Stripes Forever followed by standing ovations. Two beautiful Petrov Concert grand's supported the excellence performances. Our sponsor, Cooper Music, we owe a round of thanks. Present that evening were the Senior Coopers, Jean and David, as well as other distinguished guests.

Kenneth Yamamoto will be off to UGA in the Fall along with three other Seniors. The National Federation Of Music Clubs gave
only one scholarship this year throughout the state. Roger Ou won first place and Stephanie Ng won second Place. Roger will be attending the Summer Music Program at Penn State. Congratulations to all of my students; however, the GMTA Spring Auditions  brought all with Outstanding Performer Status locally. 2005-2006 Pre-registration forms will go out this month and I am auditioning prospective students to fill vacancies in the Fall.  Please call me at -770-992-8850 or visit my web site at http://www.geocities.com/ngapianostudio. January 2005

I want to welcome the 5 talented  students that came to me in December and January.  They are: Vanessa Scrub (Jonesboro), Morgan Gillespie, Shannon Milhollin, and Emily & JT Bopp.  These are busy and exciting times for all my students who are preparing for the Federation Auditions Festival on March 5th at Christ United Church (recital home) and the NDMTA  & GMTA Solo Auditions at Piano Works on Feb. 5th and March 5th.  This year I am co-chairing with my husband, Bill. The Federation Festival and we are both so grateful for the help of parents as monitors to our 8 judges.  Without your help the task would be impossible.  Thank you so much !  We are a very large center due mostly to the quality of our judges we select early and the fine pianos that Cooper Music provides us with.  I will be at the festival all morning and then must go to Piano works for the GMTA auditions for some of my students.  I will be back at my studio to play the orchestral part for those doing a concerto.

What I am hearing are the shaping up of two well prepared pieces for Festival and the memory seems to be clicking with everyone. I emphasize Dynamics and shading and good pedaling.  The audition times will be posted in my studio as well as sent home with my students.  The GOLD CUP RECITALS for those expecting to receive a cup will be on Sunday, March 13th at 1:30 PM at The Christ United Church.  If all get their points, there will be 17 students of mine performing and receiving GOLD CUPS.  It is such a wonderful program to hear. All my students are encouraged to attend.  Put it on your calendars.

We are at Barnsley Garden resort for our son's wedding this weekend and have made arrangements with my Friday & Saturday students to take their lesson at another time this week or next.  Be sure to check with your son or daughter or call me if unsure.

"December  11th-12th Winter Holiday Programs at Christ United Methodist Church  saw New Students and Old performing a variety of classical  repertoire as well as holiday arrangements.  3 piano quartets  presented both traditional  Christmas favorites(Sleigh Ride & Allegro Deciso-Bach) while the Presto Piano Quartet made up of all new but advanced students) performed the exciting Von Suppe's Light Cavalry Overture -also, Debussy's 2nd Arabesque.  Such favorites as Chopin's Fantasie Impromtu & Nocturne in B Major-C Minor Partita of Bach, and French Suite # 6 of Bach were performed before a large and most appreciative audience. Refreshments followed.

Students are now busily preparing for the NDMTA Local Piano Auditions on March 5th as well as Feb. 5th.  The Federation  Festival Auditions are also falling on the same date, March 5th, but times are being arranged to accommodate students doing both. Enough time in between to travel and audition for both. The Piano Concerto Competition will be at my home, as always and in the afternoon. My students are working extra hard to have the two pieces memorized by audition times. 2004 was a gala year and has also brought several very talented students to my studio. 8 played at The Alliance Children's Theatre Christmas House in Nov. & Dec.

Spring Recital Dates have changed as I am taking a poll to be sure that all the Senior Recital students do not have any conflict with the Friday night date. It is important that the Spring Recital does not take place the night before exams for high school students.  We do not want a repeat of the Christmas Sunday night performance in December where students left at intermission to go home and study. A professional photographer took pictures and it was easy to see who left early. These students missed the performances of five students whose playing was incredible. No student should ever leave a recital till its conclusion.  It is a simple and expected courtesy that should be adhered to by all.  The above date change should eliminate a repeat of this problem in the future. These is the first time this has ever happened in my 30 years of presenting these recitals and let us hope the last.

November 2004

Our Winter Recitals always include Holiday music combined with student’s classical choices, traditional Sleigh Ride and the Nutcracker Suite arrangements. We will decide these selections the week of October 10th. Remember these recitals are open to family, friends as well as the general public.

A few students are playing in the GNTA Spring Auditions More about this later. You all know who you are.

September 2004

By now all of my students (new & old) have settled into their academic studies and will be glad to return to their Piano studies finding it easier once the school schedule has settled into their daily routine. All time slots have been agreed upon. If there are any problems, let me know. My roster is full & I have added several new advanced students, which are very talented.
Federation music is ready & waiting for you to pick what you want to learn for your March 5th auditions & Festival. Those of you who have discussed with me redoing a concerto (Junior & Senior) should remind me at your first lesson in case I neglected to make a note at your last lesson.
9th thru 12th grade students playing Moderately difficult 1 & above can learn a senior concerto (8 points) combined with the solo piece (5 points) which makes it possible for you to earn the 30,45,60 & 75 point cups in far less time. Give this some serious thought.
Be sure to bring your last assignment notebook to your first lesson or a NEW one if needed. I am looking forward to another wonderful & exciting year with all the new & "old" faces.
Kenneth Yamamoto has returned from Germany & will be joining our studio again this year.
